Hello from Vicar Dave!

Have a hot weekend!! Well, there isn't really a choice, but I hope you are enjoying the summer weather. Why not embrace Mediterranean culture as well as the weather and join us for a wonderful operatic concert on Saturday evening? And there will be a warm welcome to worship on Sunday morning!

  • Welcome to Visitors and Newcomers.
  • Diocese ‘100’ Monday 25th August. There is a sign up sheet for the Festival day of fun and praise outing to Keysoe, Bedfordshire, to celebrate the Diocese 100 years. £10 for the coach journey, the rest of the day free! Please sign up by 4th August at the latest - the Bishop is getting restless to know who is coming!!! 
  • Daytime Prayer Meeting each Wednesday at 1pm in Church. Join us to pray for God’s work in our lives and Church.
  • Our visiting preacher for this Sunday, Michael Campbell from Luton Town Centre Chaplaincy was unable to join us due to unforeseen circumstances. He will now be coming on September 14th - come and hear about the work of LTCC and how we can be involved.
  • Luton Churches Education Trust (LCET) annual service is on Sunday September 21st at 6:30pm at Stopsley Baptist Church. Join with Christians from around Luton to hear more about this exciting work. (There will not be an ‘official’ evening service that Sunday, so that we can attend the LCET service)
  • Thank you for recent support for Vicar of Baghdad - see below request for prayer. We have raised £134.
    • Canon Andrew White is the vicar of St. George's church in Baghdad and he says: "May we plead for your prayers? WE ARE IN THE MOST DESPERATE SITUATION WE HAVE BEEN IN SINCE THE WAR IN 2003. The total infrastructure of the country has fallen to pieces. Even basic communication facilities like Facebook have all been closed down. We have no government, very little food and for the first time, huge opposition against Christianity. Churches have been attacked, Christian homes destroyed and thousands of Christians have fled their homes to seek safety and refuge. Please, Please pray for us."
    • David Newbound, our Pastoral Worker is now back in the parish after his holiday. Contact him via the Parish Office.
    • Coach outing to Clacton on Sea - July 26th. All seats fully booked.
    • Forthcoming social events at St Thomas’s -  Please see the notice board in the church hall.
    • Chaplaincy at ASDA There is to be a new team of chaplains at ASDA. Speak to the Vicar if you might be interested.
    • Sunday Club for children - will continue to meet over the summer period. Starts in church at 10am and then they go out to their activities.
    • Coffee Morning The next Coffee Morning is on Saturday August 2nd 10am-12
    • Parish Lunch on Wed 3rd September 12:30pm. Sign up on list in the porch.
      • Lending Library in Church Foyer full of Christian material to borrow.  This has now been added by a chance to borrow Christian CDs.
        • Morning Prayers in Church is taking a summer break from July 10th till early September.
        • Community Eve and Cafe Church  is taking a summer break from July 16th till early September.
        • Prayer Meeting Sun 14th September 5pm. Do join us to pray together.

        STOPSLEY PARISH CHURCH - ST THOMAS‘

        Hello from Vicar Dave!

        Have you anything to share? 

        Of course, as a beautiful human being you have plenty! Sharing our selves, our talents, our love, our stuff is a big part of who are as human beings. The Holy Spirit enables to receive from our incredible Sharing God, who shares from his amazing grace, and inspires us to be sharing people. We shall be thinking this Sunday morning about how God generously shares through us.

        In this week's newsheet there is an update from the Vicar of Baghdad, and details of a visit from the Senior Chaplain of Luton Town Centre Chaplaincy.

        • Summer Fayre and BBQ  A big thank you to all who supported the Summer Fayre. It was a lovely day and we raised around £300, some of which is going directly to Hands of Mercy.

                  Summer Fayre

                  Hello from Vicar Dave!

                  I hope you are enjoying the summer weather! Hopefully it continues on Saturday, but whether it does or not, we will be enjoying a Summer Fayre & BBQ from 3pm-6pm. Do join us! And invite friends and family.

                  Before that on Saturday there will be a Coffee Morning, from 10am-Noon. For anyone staying on from the Coffee Morning for the Fayre, there will be a BBQ lunch available. Again, do join us.
